Giving and Taking Advice – How It Can Help – #MFRWauthor

One of the hardest things for a writer to do is take advice from a critique group. You feel as if you are a Momma Bear who is protecting her cub, which in this case is your book.  You have spent hours, days, months and sometimes years working on your book and here they are within a few minutes tearing it apart. That is just the first chapter!

You sit silently at the table as one by one they take turns telling you what is wrong with your work. Then, once you feel as if they have torn your precious baby to shreds, you can speak to defend your work.

  • The best thing for you to do before you say a word, take a deep breath.
  • Do your utmost not to get defensive, remember this is meant to be constructive criticism. Be open to their ideas and suggestions.
  • You do not have to take the critique group’s advice, but much of the time they can see things you cannot. As the writer, you have lived your book, and you know what you mean to say. However, as the reader, they may not see it the same way you …

Taken A Shine … #MFRWhooks

Blurb:

Lyla is just seventeen when one moment changes her life forever. Now she is spending her senior year pregnant and her boyfriend, Patrick, is working at his grandfather’s fruit market to support his new family instead of going off to college. During a difficult day, an Irish exchange student, Rowena, comes to Lyla’s rescue and tells her fascinating stories of her family’s haunted castle back home whose ghost knows how to please a woman. While Patrick rolls his eyes, Lyla is enthralled.

For the next twenty years, Patrick promises Lyla he will take her to Ireland to visit Rowena and see the castle. But when he becomes ill and passes away, Lyla is left to pick up the pieces of her shattered life and contemplate what is next. After she decides to visit Ireland, Lyla touches the castle walls. As her world begins to shift, Lyla is left wondering whether grief is making her lose her mind or if is it really possible that the castle’s ghost looks just like her husband.

In this romantic tale, a woman journeying through loss visits a castle in Ireland and becomes romantically entangled with a three-hundred-year-old ghost who shockingly resembles …

Sarah’s Gift By Marilyn L Hart

Blurb:

Sarah had inherited the “Luck of the Irish” gift like her Uncle Johnny. His gift of protection had served him well during his military career and for his security business. She was able to feel and sense other’s emotions. Which traumatized her at four years old when she sensed her parent’s death. As a form of therapy, her Uncle had given her a coloring book. That was the beginning of her love of colors and clothing designs. She began her own business selling her dresses to family and friends. It was the perfect world for her because she could do what she loved and not be around a lot of people. But as time passed, she got tired of the safe route. It was time she stopped living her life in fear.

An assignment came up for her Uncle’s company at Brandon’s Design House in Miami, Florida. Brandon needed someone who could go undercover and find out who was stealing his designs. With her ability to sense other people’s emotions, this assignment should have been a simple in and out job. Then Nicco Kombi walks in the door. Never had …

Point Of View, Marilyn L Hart

Our Own Point of View #MFRWauthor

Point Of View, Marilyn L Hart

Take six people and put them in a room and sit them around a table. In the center of the table have a bowl with different subjects on it. One at a time have each person take out a piece of paper and read it out loud. Then have everyone express their point of view on the subject. I guarantee, there will be six different points of view. Some of them may be similar, but there will be variances. We all have our own point of view and thankfully we live in a country where we are free to express them.

In writing, point of view is different. When plotting out your story, you need to find out whose point of view you are going to be writing the story from. Then you need to decide if you are going to write it in the first, second or third person's perspective.  You need to write consistently through the story from that viewpoint.

Stress Eating The Whys and Wherefores #MFRWauthor

Stress is a silent killer. Many people do not realize how detrimental it is to their body.

I went onto WebMD and below is an abbreviated version of ways stress can affect your body:

1. Stress can make you nausea.
2. Stress can weaken your bones and immune system, affect your sleep and make you lose muscle.
3. Stress can make you want to eat more unhealthy foods, drink more alcohol or smoke more often.
4. Stress can make you tighten the muscles in your head, neck, and shoulders, causing headaches and migraines.

The list goes on and on how bad stress is on your body. For some of us, a little stress is invigorating because it motivates us to finish an article or project on time. These short spurts of stress would probably not have long term effects. It is when the stress is continual it affects the body in negative ways.

It does not matter if you are a man, woman, boy or a girl, we have all done stress eating. The differences may be the reason you are doing the stress eating. I did stress eating when I lost both my parents and …

LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERYDAY

Did you know our brain is one of the least used organs in our body? There is so much about it; the medical field has yet to discover. What they have been able to determine is we only use only about 10% of its capabilities. If our heart just worked 10%, our daily life would be a struggle.

They estimate Einstein used 15% of his brain power. I wonder how much brain power Stephen Hawking, who was considered the smartest man in America used? If we only use 10% of our brain, imagine what we could do if we are able to expand our knowledge by another 5%. Would we become as smart as Einstein or Stephen Hawking? What if we could grow it by 50%? Our potential would be unlimited.

My Dad always said you should learn something new every day. The older I get, the more I realize his advice was good advice. Just as exercise is essential to the body, stimulating the brain is also important. Every day you should do something to expand your mind, continue to learn something new.

There are so many natural ways to stimulate your mind that costs very …

Change your life, Marilyn L Hart

How Books Can Influence Daily Lives #MFRWauthor

Change your life, Marilyn L Hart Books Are Life Changers – How many of us can say, “I read a book and it changed my life forever”. I know I can. I was going through a difficult period and went to a book store and bought the book, The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. I had never heard of the book or the author before, but once I read it, my life changed. I realized the unhappiness I was feeling, was within my control. No one else had the power to make me happy, I had to decide to be happy.
